It's A Sign

Don't forget the VIP party is going on until midnight Sunday!  Go link up HERE.

Quite literally!  It is a sign!  I made one har har.  And being my first sign I'm pretty pleased.  For the most part.  I didn't do a step by step or anything since these things are a dime a dozen now days.  And let me tell you you'll be glad I didn't.

I knew I wanted this to hang over the front door inside so I measured to get an idea of how long my board should be.  Well let me tell you if you have a short last name you wont want it to be too long or your letters have to be GINORMOUS for it to look remotely cool lol.

Next I painted it grey but it was not looking great so I roughed up the edges and stained them dark walnut.  Then completely by mistake I got some stain in the middle of the board and when I wiped it off I liked what I saw so I rubbed it all over and voila it looked cool.

While that dried I cut out my letters on the silhouette and then taped off my lines for the rugby stripe in the middle.  I painted the letters and stripes in burnt umber.

Next came the fun part.  If you think an education is difficult, try being stupid.  First my centering was off so the G was way too far to the left.  Re-sand and paint and glaze.  While that dries start painting the letters on backward from right to left.  Got the H, woohoo!  Looks great.  What's next?  Oh yes how about a G!  Mother of all things holy!  Are you kidding me?  Why can't I get this right? I can't spell my name backward.  So we sand some more and re-paint again.  That's two out of 5 letters I've screwed up thus far.  Now I'm pursing my lips and trying to refrain from cursing so loud the neighbors come to find out if I've severed a limb.

I'm sure you can see around the T where it's blotchy.  Yep, being a retard is challenging some days.  But overall I'm happy and hey... you can't win em' all right?!

Maybe you had low blood sugar when you were working. It looks great! If things are perfect, they look like you bought them somewhere. I love this. Ann
