Recently I traded the bottom of a hutch for this beautiful antique bed. The headboard was 90% refinished and I just needed another coat of paint or two. Here is the foot board unfinished.
I’m infatuated with the design. The headboard is even more beautiful. And my youngest daughter has always been last to have a room finished for her. So since we moved into this house in February I decided her room would be the first for me to work on.
Her room started in the loft of our old house. Then she moved in with her sister and this is her first real room all to herself. The goal is a fairy forest. She loves Tinker bell but I’m not so much the type to do character themes. So we’ve compromised
I think the bed is a great start. I’m going to try and incorporate lots of green like the pillow you see. And lavender shades.
I’m debating on doing some green stenciling on the footboard. Maybe some vinyl is in order so it can be removed.
Did I mention yesterday was Friday the 13th? Well after bringing all the pieces up to the room and fighting with this bed, I realized the rails I got with it aren’t original to the bed. And they weren’t going to go in. Such is life on Craigs List right? So for eight long hours I went shopping for corner braces, drilled out the pins that held in the metal hardware to the rails (nightmare!) drilled holes, aligned the rails, screwed them and touched up paint. It wasn’t supposed to be this hard.
But I’m fairly certain it was all worth it! I love this bed. And so does my baby bear.

Pretty headboard!! I have had the same issue with rails not being the right ones. It is quite frustrating!

At least you are handy!! I bought an antique French daybed for my oldest, a girl, in the country one year. We brought it back to NYC and the mattress we had didn't fit. I had to have one custom made at Bloomingdales. When they came to deliver it the rails didn't have a support to hold the mattress on. So they had to send a man to fix it. I was really lucky that worked. My daughter had her first real bedroom, Laura Ashley Blue Strawberries. She's thirty now and we still have the bed. Ann
The bed is beautiful - great trade!

Beautiful, Sommer! I'm not much for themes either; although, I'd rather buy a sheet set or accessories with the theme than do major things like the walls. I'll bet a vinyl would look great!
Visiting from Frugalicious Friday. : )
So beautiful!
The bed turned out so pretty! Thank you for sharing!
